How to Beat The Lockdown Blues

Are you feeling a little down as a result of our current lockdown? Depending on where you live in the world, the flexibility of being able to go out to restaurants, hang out with friends, and do all the other “normal” and fun things may vary. In one way or another, we are all experiencing some degree of the lockdown blues.


Being indoors has caused us to turn to our tv’s and laptops binge on the latest series and tablets and phones to stay connected with others for comfort, and for some, even caused a little weight gain. We have forgotten about the one antidote that will help alleviate our depression and increase our happiness- the great outdoors! It was found in a study done by Anglia Ruskin University that spending time outdoors and spending less time on our technological devices is associated with higher levels of happiness during COVID-19 restrictions. So, it only makes sense to get outside right?


If you’re anything like me, you’re probably trying to figure out different ways to stay mentally sane while physically healthy and active. I’ve found that the following 3 outdoor activities help me feel great and stay in the happy zone:



Go for a 10 minute walk.

There is just something about taking a little break and enjoying a little vitamin D outside to help rejuvenate the body and mind. The next time you’re feeling overwhelmed with work, consumed with negative emotions, or just need a little extra boost of energy, try going out for a short 10 minute walk! It will definitely change your state of mind and you'll be able to burn extra calories too!


Take an indoor workout outside.

If you’re trying to stay active and lose weight with workout videos, change things up and take them outside! Just grab a tripod or something to prop your phone up, a yoga mat, and start moving! For a library of quick fat burning workouts, I have 22- 15 minute workouts videos, here, that will surely help you get your sweat on- all you need is your body and a mat!

Take work calls/meetings outside.

If you’re working at home during the day and you don't need to be next to your laptop while you’re on a call, pop in your earphones and take a stroll outside. If you’re on a Zoom conference, take your laptop or phone outdoors and enjoy the fresh air while you’re in your meeting.
